Christmas at the Bouman Stickney Farmstead Museum
Sunday, 3 December 2017

Seasonal festivities begin at the Bouman Stickney Farmstead Museum in Readington Township, New Jersey. It's a popular event for families, marking the beginning of the holidays. Merriment begins before we're even in the house, as music floats upon the air to greet us, carols played by Ridley and Anne Enslow on violin and hammered dulcimer.

He plays the violin. She, the hammered dulcimer.

Kloompen are lined by the hearth with care,
with carrots tucked in for the noble white steed

of Sinterklaas. Actually, he said his horse is
in the stable, staying warm and eating hay.

Downstairs, the cooks are at work in the kitchen. Bev Altrath and
Arlene Soong are using the Farmstead's original open hearth.

They're making ginger molasses cookies

You can just see some baking in the tin reflector oven on the left.

They're also making waffles, something tricky, that,
using a long-handled waffle iron heated in the flames.

Seasonal greens, apples and pears decorate the deep window sill.
